Description: Studio Pottery Raku Vase, Tony Evans (1942-2009), Black & Copper Reds, Triangle, Signed, CA Object: This auction is for an amazing Tony Evans Raku vase in a rough textured, matte black triangular shape with beautiful glossy flowing copper red designs that have an iridized sheen (blues, purples and golds). The dominate triangular shape has a small fourth side so it's actually an angular rectangular shape. Photos just cannot do justice. Artist/Studio: Tony Evans (1942-2009) was born Anthony Glyn Evans in Southern California. Evans was highly talented and excelled in experimental as well as traditional art pottery, raku, mixed mediums, and later art glass techniques. He was a student in the 1960s of Japanese Calligraphy and was highly influenced by Jackson Pollack, Franz Kline and other innovative artists of the time. As well as an award-winning artist, he became founder and president of Evans Design employing other talented artists to carry out his original visions. Evans' work is highly unique and impressive and very collectible today. Source: Online research. Origin: California, USA Year: Unknown, possibly dates to 1990s Signed: Signed in metallic silver on the unglazed bottom, "Evans Raku 162." Pattern: Abstract Color: Matte black, glossy copper reds iridized with blues, purples and golds. Material: Ceramic pottery Surface: Rough matte black; smooth glossy designs; glossy inside; unglazed base. Technique: Studio crafted Features: Modern triangle or angular rectangle shape; contrasting textures; 3 felt furniture protectors on the bottom; per online research, probably not safe for liquids although glazed inside; hand signed. Condition: Very good pre-owned, vintage condition, with no chips, cracks, or crazing. Minor surface wear in the black areas and one shallow ding to the inside rim does not detract. The green felt furniture protector pads on the bottom show some wear and one of the original four is missing. Please see photos. Any irregularities, bubbles, etc. would be from the handmade process.
