Description: SIGNED hardcover plus dust jacket and a catalog for limited edition prints of Soyer's work with pricing. 1- Catalog- Includes a slipped in price list dated September 1969. Includes images of 12 pieces available for sale, with a few in color and the rest black and white (photo 10). There is a light bump to the upper right corner of the entire catalog, which is only 8 pages plus wraps. 2- BOOK- Signed by the artist opposite the half title page and inscribed to art dealer, collector and photographer, Alfredo Valente, who was instrumental in the career of Soyer. DUST JACKET has small nicks and edge wear and one half inch tear closed on inside. Soiling to jacket (photo 3). Both the front and rear paste down have small scotch tape mark remnants (photo 12) and I am guessing that he had original art connected there at one time based on other experience. It is not there now, only the marks. Published by Shorewood Publishing in 1961 based on the dated inscription. 135 plates reproduced. Most are black and white with several in color (15, I think). ALFREDO VALENTE: Throughout his career, he was intimately connected with the painting community in New York. In 1952, he exhibited at the New School twenty-eight portraits of New York painters accompanying their own self portraits. He invested the profits of his portrait business in paintings, collecting substantial bodies of work by Raphael Soyer, Kuniyoshi, and Ben Shahn. By 1959, the value of these paintings had risen to such extent that Valente closed his portrait studio and founded the Alfredo Valente Gallery at 119 W. 57th Street in Manhattan. In January 1964, the Chase Manhattan Bank exhibited a show devoted to his work entitled, "The Personal and Private Eye of the Photographer." c MEDIA MAIL: The USPS allows books, records and other media to be mailed at a cheaper price than typical mail. It tends to be a much slower mailing process than standard mail. In addition, any employee of the USPS can open the package at ANY time for ANY reason to verify that what is inside is what should be inside. In most cases, the item is properly repackaged but, in rare cases, it is not and an item can arrive damaged. As my feedback suggests, I package very carefully. If you receive a damaged item that has the appearance of having been poorly packaged, please contact me prior to leaving feedback so that it can be addressed.
