Description: Seller: Alley-Antiques DESCRIPTION: Georgian Period Accessories. RARE Antique 18th Century original satirical etching aquatint after John Nixon and published by William Wells. This is a medium etching aquatint on paper that was then hand colored. It was made in London, England. The title is "Hearing" and is from a series of prints of the Senses. It features a couple of dolls on a table with a man with a leg leg playing the violin. Two ladies listening( one old one young with a baby). There is a bird cage in the tree with a bird. It is hand colored. The etching is in a newer matting,glass, and frame. It is over 200 years old. Fair to good condition for age. I have not had it out of frame. It is NOT perfect it is antique and has character. There is overall toning. Paper loss before H in word HEARING. Matting has loss to some minor areas of the gold gilding around etching. The printer and date would be below matting but haven't verified as it hasn't been out of frame. Don't know condition under matting. Newer frame, newer matting, newer glass. Displays nicely and is a very hard to find original 200+ years old John Nixon etching. Overall measures about 16 3/4" long by about 12 3/4", sight of image in matting is about 11" x 8 1/2".
