Description: Rare 1911 (or later) CA Trade Token for Mills Station Front: "JNO. (John) Studarus" - "Mills"Back: "Good for 5c in Trade" Excellent condition, very lightly circulated (See Photos) Extensive research has uncovered only a handful of additional specimens for sale or sold at auction. Therefore, it can be concluded that this token is rare, if not very rare. Historical records for John Studarus in California (Sacremento County) exist. His biography is fairly well documented here... https://goldennuggetlibrary.sfgenealogy.org/sacstuda.htmhttps://www.hmdb.org/m.asp?m=214468 From the historical records, it appears that John Studarus built the Mills Station building to expand his mercantile business. The building housed various businesses including a tavern, grocery store, post office, library, gas station, restaurant and large second floor ball room. Based on this, it is reasonable to believe this rare token was used at one or more of the businesses in trade for goods and/or services. Great artifact from American history!!
