Description: Rare, 112-page hardbound book published by the Buick Motor Company of Flint, Michigan. Seldom seen, this book is a historical publication rather than a simple promotional effort. This is truly a profoundly intimate look at the Buick operation 124 years ago. The text extols the qualities of the current Buick cars but does not focus on them entirely. The photographs show the entrance, reception, and waiting area to the Buick Administration Building plant in Lansing; the Presidents Office, the General Managers Office; Drafting and Engineering rooms; Purchasing Department; the Experimental Laboratories; the Sales and Advertising Offices; and the Telephone and Telegraph Office. Photographs of the many and various factories are illustrated. Building and plants shown include the Central Power and Heating Plant, the Brass and Aluminum Foundry; the Casting Factory; the Pattern Making and Tool Making plants; the Forging Plant; the Testing Laboratory; the Transmission Plant; the Hub and Bushing Plant; the Axle Plant; the Heat Treating Plant; the Sheet Metal Factory; the Enameling Plant; the several Body Plants; the Painting Shop; the Upholstery Plant; the three Assembly Plants; the Inspection, Loading, and Shipping Plants; the Parts and Service Plants; the Buick Hospital; and the Personal Welfare Department. The book also includes a four-page fold out illustrating all of the Flint factories. Virtually every other page is devoted to a well-defined, full-page photograph. This book is incredible and incredibly rare. At over a century old, the books binding and cover pages do not present as brand newbut not much looks brand new after 104 years. See pictures for condition. For the library of anyone owning a 1920s Buick; a Buick historian; or anyone wanting to see and know where and how Buicks were made in 1920.
