RARE 1960 Christian Bros Brothers School Of Boston Speech Debate 1st Place Award

Description: Up for sale is this rare 1st place award from the 1960 Christian Bro’s Speech Festival. This was given to the winner of the speech competition in 1960. This is truly of a kind and you will not see this for sale again! Christian Brothers Speech and Debate was organized in 1958 as the Edmund Ignatius Rice Forensic Society. The team competes as part of the National Catholic Forensic League (NCFL) and the National Speech & Debate Association (NSDA). Team members compete in one of 16 speech categories, which include declamation, original oratory, duo interpretation, and humorous interpretation; or in one of seven debate categories, which include Lincoln-Douglas debate, public forum debate, and extemporaneous debate. Throughout the school year, CM competes in local tournaments including the Natick Holly Fest, Newton South Winter Festival, and Shrewsbury Mardi Grad tournament. The team also competes at tournaments hosted by colleges and universities including Harvard University, Yale University, St. Joseph’s College, and the University of Pennsylvania. In recent years, CM has become one of the strongest programs in the state and a perennial participant in national tournaments. The team won back-to-back state championships in 2017 and 2018, finishing first out of 44 schools. Over the last five years, 103 members have qualified for either the NCFL or NSDA national tournament. The program has produced eight National Champions over its history. Comes with the original storage/display box it was found with. This is made of brass and weighs 55 grams. Does have a bit of patina. Measures about 2” wide.
