Description: This ancient bronze spear head is 50 x 22 x 500 mm long or approximately 20" inches long. This extremely rare Ancient Elite Forces Cataphract Cavalry Parthian, Persian and later auxiliaries for the Roman Heavy Cavalry weapon is near impossible to find. About 98% of all ancient bronze weapons were cast. It is extremely rare to find an ancient bronze weapon hanged forged and hand beaten from sheet bronze and even more rare to find a spear blade this long. This is what we would call a special forces weapon. The Cataphract was the first fully armored knight (from head to toe) seen in Persia, the Middle East and Europe. Because the bonze blade was hand forged instead of cast, it allowed the weapon to stay very long but yet very light weight and the 20 inches length gave the rider the ability for extra reach. This was important for a cavalryman as he already sat high and away from all enemy ground forces. Unlike cast bronze, hand beaten bronze allowed the armorer or weapon maker to give the weapon a nice very sharp edge as the bronze was hammered tighter and tighter making the condensed molecules on the edge very strong and very sharp. Bronze was better then then the earlier copper weapons with the addition of tin mix into the metal. However the copper base of this weapon made this extremely sharp edge very brittle and is why all ancient bronze hand forged weapons have chips on their blades edging.
