Description: Rare Antique French Plate, K & G (Keller et Guérin), Lunéville, “May”, ca 1840-1850 This antique French plate, handsomely colored in beige and brown, bears the mark used between 1840 and 1850 by Keller & Guérin in Lunéville, France. The Lunéville faience factories, founded in the 18th century, were further developed in the 19th century by Keller who later joined with Guérin, their two initials forming the mark “KG”. This celebrated pottery manufacturer in the Lorraine region of France produced many wonderful pieces during its existence and was so successful that Keller and Guérin opened a store in New York during the “Belle Epoque” period of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The central scene of this plate shows an allegory of the month of May, represented by two ladies seated in a garden reading a letter. This piece is in very good condition, with the exception of faint scratches due to age and use. It will be authentic antique French addition to your décor, to your table or to your collection.
