Description: Rare Antique Handbag Biscuit Tin, Huntley & Palmers Reticule 1905 Beautiful and rare antique handbag shaped biscuit tin from Huntley & Palmers, known as “Reticule” and dating to 1905. Larger and sturdier than most handbag style tins, and decorated with abstract Art Nouveau floral motifs on an olive green background. Closing in on 120 years old! Could be an inspired gift for the fashionista in your life. Again, not an actual handbag, but a metal biscuit tin designed to look like one. Lid area has two hinged areas and some clasps for closure. About 8 1/8” by 3.75” by 5 7/8” tall, excluding top protrusion and handle. CONDITION: Some areas of wear, scratches and scuffs, handling marks and normal vintage soiling, some small and minor dents and dings, some early rust, etc. · Some noticeable generalized wear. Most wear is on the two long sides and those upper curved areas. Includes some dark wear and soiling. · Both long sides have some mild-ish to low-moderate denting in the lower area, causing each side to dip inward a bit. · Handle, clasps, and adjacent areas worn to dark metal with some scratches, too. These are well attached, move freely. Handle doesn’t stay upright. · Dark patina inside, some normal surface rust. · Bottom rather scuffed and scratched, some dents, small area sticker residue near on edge. · Hinges well attached, move freely. · Opens/closes fine. · I thought there might be something missing at center latch piece, but it seems consistent with other examples. This piece seems just decorative. The tin is empty. No longer for food use. Any props not included. Colors can vary across devices, so the colors and brightness should be considered an approximation.
