Description: This auction is for a RARE FIRE FIGHTING GRAY GRANITEWARE BUCKET. These were hung in a house and contained sand or water. They were also carried on fire trucks and old horse drawn fire house carriages. Earlier fire-fighting buckets were made of either leather or tin and were conical in shape. The rounded shape of this bucket made it easier to stack multiple buckets in a small transport space. The bucket has some rusting inside and out, so it has held water in the past. It was not used for cooking >>> there are no burn marks on the bottom or wooden handle. Hard to find a bucket like this made in graniteware or enamelware. A great addition to any fire fighting collection.
