RAGSDALE. Because of the scarcity of water in this arid land, little running streams, like Oak Creek, are always a welcome sight to the traveler. Oak Creek continues its merry way throughout the year, and during trout fishing season is especially popular. The Arizona Game Department operates a fish hatchery toward the head waters of the creek and during the season releases at opportune times legal-sized trout, thereby guaranteeing to the sportsman a catch no matter when he comes to the stream. Because of its accessibility to residents of central and south central Arizona, Oak Creek is busy throughout the trout season, which extends from the end of May through the last day of September. It is never so crowded, however, as to warrant the jest: "When you go fishing at Oak Creek. bring your own rock." This photograph was taken on Ektnchrome Daylight type film with a 4x5 Graphic View camera, using a 5 inch Ektar lens and no filter. The shutter was set at 1/5th of a second and the aperture about 126. although the exposure needed was 1/5 at 122. The photographer found by test his shutter Vas slow on a 1/5th by about 1/3 stop. Cameras can get out of order. Many of our photographers on field trips always carry a spare camera for safety's sake. LEGEND: "Oak Creek" . . . . . Front Cover Fred H.
