Most of the funds for the construction of the synagogue were donated by the Dunaevsky family, the owners of the local tobacco factory. A member of this family is Isaac Dunayevsky, a well-known Soviet composer in the future.In 1907, this synagogue was already the main synagogue of the entire Lokhvitsky district. The rabbi was Efroimson Efroim Abramovich, the headman was Dusavitsky Tsodik.50 kilometers from Lokhvitsa is the grave of the Jewish philosopher, rabbi, kabbalist, founder of the Hasidic movement Chabad - Alter Rebbe (Shneur Zalman from Lyad).During the Soviet period, the synagogue was first closed and then converted into an incubator.
