Description: RARE BURMESE EARLY 20TH CENTURY ANTIQUE 'DHA' CEREMONIAL DECORATED DAGGER, W/ HAND CARVED, FIGURATIVE WATER BUFFALO HORN HANDLE, INSCRIBED STEEL BLADE ON BOTH SIDES, ROSEWOOD SCABBARD W/VIEWING 'WINDOW,' INLAID ROUND BONE PEARLS & BRASS BANDS (Circa 1920-1935) Burmese 'Dha' antique ceremonial knives & swords DIMENSIONS: 15" Full Length x 6" Handle's Length x 2 " Handle's Width x 6.5" Blade's Length DESCRIPTION: The hand carved rosewood scabbard or sheath of this early 20th century Burmese antique 'Dha' ceremonial dagger has now slightly split along both sides of the scabbard, from years of drying and from the pressure of the blade being placed firmly inside the sheath and being taken out repeatedly over time. The scabbard is still intact and is also held together by brass bands that have their original, naturally oxidized vintage patina. The hand carved, curved, convex water buffalo bone handle features a Burmese deity with characteristic high headdress and one arm raised and the other relaxed. The reticulated, figurative handle has some wear on especially the underside, with some slight material loss, but the show side is largely without damage or bone loss. The entire dagger is decorated with inlaid, cut-out, round white bone 'pearls' or 'jewels,' used as a decorative element. The rosewood scabbard also has a cut-out viewing windowin order to see the face of the Burmese deity once the dagger blade is back in the sheath. Both sides of the dagger's steel blade facia are decorated with tooled marks of hammered and incised, incredibly beautiful and rare. Amazing craftsmanship and elevated artistry on display.
