Description: Here is a very difficult-to-find little pear-shaped tenor guitar, made circa 1920s by Lyon & Healy of Chicago. It is an American Conservatory Model 4960, I think the wood is pear wood. I'd thought I was going to learn to play, and took it to a luthier's shop early this year to have it professionally gone over and set up. He found several hairline cracks in the top and one (or two?) of the braces that were loose; it needed new strings and a bridge, and I happened to have an original bridge from a 1920s banjo that, he said, worked perfectly. Otherwise this instrument is 100 percent original, the finish is untouched and just shows a minimal amount of honest wear. I spent $216.00 on the repairs, which I thought was very reasonable. Unfortunately, I had forgotten how hard playing a guitar can be on one's fingertips! I hadn't played since I was a teenager, which has been a good many years ago. So for the past six months or so, I've been debating whether to keep it, or pass it along to someone who will appreciate it and enjoy it. As a woodwind player, I really don't think I want to toughen up my fingers to the point where I can enjoy playing. So I have finally decided to list it. This is a great little guitar, and I'm hoping someone will enjoy playing it and will give it the love it deserves. I'm including a brand-new capo plus the case pictured, it's a former repair shop case and does have some faint black marker on the side but is in very nice condition otherwise. It will do its job. The guitar itself measures 33" in length overall, the body is 15-7/8" long by 11-3/4" wide by 3-1/4" deep. I don't have a great deal of technical knowledge about these instruments, so if you have questions please write and I'll do my best to answer them. No reserve! Buyer pays actual shipping costs.
