Description: Large scalloped oval platter by Charles Field Haviland of Limoges in a rare unnamed pattern, known on Replacements Ltd. as "CHF38" and completely out of stock. The red circular overglaze decorating mark on the back was used by CFH for a long time, but I think this is a later pattern, maybe 1930s or 40s, because of the lack of an underglaze mark. This pattern is exquisite, with a gold encrusted band around the rim in a scrollwork design. Gold filigree decoration then extends from the band onto the dark green flange, ending in a thin gold verge. The floor is pure, glossy white. This platter measures 16" long and 12" wide so it is quite substantial in size. It’s in extraordinary condition with no chips, cracks, or utensil scratches; I don't even see a scuff mark in the gold trim. It was clearly used for display only and very well-cared for. This is a stunning pattern and rare piece for any discerning Haviland or Limoges collector, rich and elegant, and I have a few other pieces in this same pattern under separate listings.
