Description: Rare huge vintage blue opalescent hors d'oeuvre platter made by Duncan & Miller Glass Co in the lovely "Sanibel" pattern from the 1940s. This pattern features various shapes of seashells in different sizes. This is probably the biggest serving piece in the line. It measures 15" long by 14" wide by 2 1/2" at the highest point (the bottom of the shell). It is in very good condition with no chips or cracks; the only visible issue is that the platform of frosted glass which serves as the base underneath the tray is very scratched from friction against a table. Although it is on the back side, the middle of the dish is clear blue so you can see the scratches from the top when the dish is empty. I have provided a number of photos to show you. There are also a few utensil scratches on the front. When you put food on this platter you can no longer see the base underneath or any scratches at all. There are 3 tiny scuff marks on the opalescent part on the back side, but you can't see those at all from the front either (the opalescent parts of the dish are more opaque-see last 2 photos). This is an exquisite piece that was made at the height of Duncan & Miller's popularity and creativity! Please note that the large size of this piece means that it will require an oversized box. Also, please see my other listings for more Sanibel and other pieces from an outstanding collection of Duncan & Miller/ Tiffin that I recently purchased at an estate auction!
