Description: For your consideration is this wondeful antique Civil War, or earlier, soldiers whetstone or sharpening stone with an incredible patina. The top of the wood box has 2 sets of initials carved in to it "JCL" & "SRM". This style of carving & letters is what is seen on Civil War musket stocks & Confederate wood canteens. This could have been used to sharpen many things, including a Bowie knife, sword or sabre, or even a bayonet. Measures approx 7.5" long x 2.5" wide x 2" tall. The top of the wood box has cracks & fits the stone very snug. Please ask any questions & see my other auctions for more fine Black powder antiques including powder flasks & horns, etc...
