Judge Abe Ramirez rose from humble beginnings in El Barrio de la Azteca in Laredo, Texas to be the class President of his freshman, sophomore, junior and senior classes at Martin High School. His leadership was evident through being Cadet Lt. Colonel of the Cadet Corp., Best All-Around Boy and Valedictorian of his high school and of the Laredo Junior College. As a member of the Armed Forces, he graduated Officers Candidate School one of the top three students out of 70 candidates. He had received a BBA in business and after his Army days, he returned to the University of Texas to study accounting and then enrolled in the South Texas College of Law where his efforts to establish a scholarship foundation earned him a Distinguished Alumnus Award 1989. In 1977, he was awarded the Distinguished Mexican - American Award. Abe served diligently in numerous civic organizations in Houston as President plus he was the first Mexican-American on the Board of Trustees of the United Way of Houston/Galveston. He also served as National Vice-President for the Southwest of L.U.L.A.C. In Houston, he served ten years as a judge of the Municipal Court and was Assistant Chief Deputy in the office of the District Clerk before moving to San Antonio. In San Antonio, he had served in the Municipal Court over 6 years before he retired.
