Description: SIDE A JUICY SOIRON CANO INDIO BOOGALOO SABROSO SIDE B PUCHI'S BOOGALOO MAMBO VILLAGE GUAJIRA Y SON MI GUAJIRA BEANS AND GREENS CHIP OFF THE OLD... The most interesting part of writing notes during all these years has been that of meeting and dealing with real professionals and personalities who needed no introductions, and, stars whose names shine bright in the constellation of fame and prestige. Of course, it is needless to say that Mr. Ramon (Mongo) Santamaria, Sr. is at the top of the list of "big names" with which I am artistically associated. This is the same Mongo Sr. who started it all, with his creations of Afro-Cuban and Afro-jazz. The man who has been unselfish enough to introduce other talents into the United States such as Armando Pereza, Carlos (Patato) Valdez and the fantastic La Lupe, to mention a few. This time, Santamaria has trusted me with the most delicate, tender and difficult task in my note-writing career, which is that of introducing his son, Monguito Santamaria. Monguito Santamaria was born in Havana, Cuba twenty-one years ago. How-ever, young as he is, Monguito writes and arranges most of the music he uses. He also conducts the group and plays the piano. In spite of these versatile talents, and good tastes, Monguito remains hum-ble, quiet and shy. That is the virtue of this gifted genius. Vivid examples of his multiple capacity are easy to appreciate through his original Juicy which is the stronghold of this album. Here we have the benefit of his conception of modern harmony, for this arrangement is superb. I would say that the singing style of Ronnie Marks is pure "soul" and the collaboration of the whole band is spectacular. There is a touch of sentimental feeling when Monguito Santamaria speaks about Guajira y Son, another original. "I wrote this one as a salute to my father", he told me, "and do you know something?" he asked, "I think I sound like him too". This is Monguito Santamaria, a "chip off the old block", who has just entered the world of celebrities and creative minded people for whom I dare to foretell that the "best is yet to come". Ladies and gentlemen, I give you, Monguito Santamaria and his orchestra. DR. ELIGIO VALERA
