Description: The 48th Highlanders of Canada have existed since 1891. It was founded when a community of Scottish Torontonians succeeded in an effort to establish a Highland Regiment in the city. To this day, they are a reserve infantry unit. The 48th highlanders became known for often being the first Canadians to step forward when called upon by the County. The 48th Highlanders received their 50th battle honour during the War in Afghanistan. Several of these battle honours were earned during the first world war. The 134th Battalion of the 48th Highlanders were the third and final Battalion of the 48th Highlanders to be sent to Europe for the first world war. The 134th Battalion was a reinforcement unit part of the Canadian Expeditionary Force and was based out of Toronto. The unit began recruiting in late 1915 and arrived in England in August of 1916. The battalion's theater of war was France. It was absorbed into the 12th Reserve Battalion in March of 1918. The battalion was disbanded November 29th, 1918. The 134th only had one documented Commanding Officer; Major Armour Adamson Miller. He was born in Goderich, Ontario in 1876, however moved to Toronto. Before starting as the Commanding officer of the 134th, Miller had spent 19 years as a member of the 48th Highlanders and had the rank of Major. Outside of his military career his occupation was as a barrister. Armour Adamson Miller, died June 21, 1918 as a result of several gun shot wounds. No international shipping. Buyer pays sales tax.
