Description: #1159 Up for sale is this incredible original WW2 US PAL RH/36 Named Fighting Knife. Knife and sheath are in excellent condition. Blade measures approximately 6” and knife measures approximately 10-3/4” overall unsheathed. The leather sheath contains a belt hanger and lots of carving. Front side has USMC, IWO JIMA, SAIPAN & GUAM as well as a State of Georgia Confederate Button. The back side has the GI’s name, serial number, city & home state : SGT JULIAN GARVIN 352447 AUGUSTA GEORGIA . This knife and sheath are a nice piece of history from a vet that must have seen a lot of action. Would be a great piece for any collection. Very much possible to find further research on Garvin, he at the very least has a Purple Heart, likely a bronze star also and potentially more medals and accommodations. The civil war buttons sell $250 by themselves… I have not done much research on Garvin, but from what I found I can say that he was from Georgia and was wounded in the pacific. After being treated for his wounds he was rotated back to service and fought on Iwo Jima. Garvin likely had ancestors who served in the confederate army, hence why he placed the button on his sheath. Another interesting note is that he placed rivets on the sheath loop to reinforce it. I suppose he realized that leather doesn’t last long in the pacific, and wanted his gear to be able to withstand the test of battle. Garvin also made sure his knife was sharp so it could get the job done. It is exceedingly rare to find Iwo Jima named fighting knives that are able to be Identified by the GI who carried them. This example, with the incredible personalizations made by Garvin just send this knife over the top. This is a high end, investment grade US fighting knife.
