The paleocarcharodon emerged during the paeleocene, a few million years after the demise of the dinosaur and rose to become the apex predator of the seas. This shark was notable for its heavily serated teeth. The otodus obliquus co-existed for a while with paleocarcharodon but eventually outcompeted and supplanted it until it became extinct itself around 4 million years ago.
