Description: This exquisite tea set is a rare find for any antique collector. Crafted with sterling silver, it exudes elegance and sophistication. The set bears the names of Rebecca and William Eames, and was sold at Christie's auction house. Dating back to about 1808, it is a true testament to the craftsmanship of the era. The set includes a tea pot, sugar bowl, and creamer. The two open pieces look like they have a gold wash interior. Total weight is 1178 grams. This piece is worth much more than scrap. Don't miss out on the opportunity to own a piece of history with this stunning silver tea set. Little is known of her life. She married the engraver and watercolour painterJohn Emes. In 1796 John Emes became partner in the London silversmith company ofThomas Chawnerand his son Henry Chawner. The firm specialized in silver tea and coffee services. When the elder Chawner retired, Emes became sole owner and presumably he carried on his own work of creating engravings for publications while Rebecca started to work in the silversmith business. After the death of John Emes the business was continued by his widow Rebecca Emes who, on 30 June 1808, entered a mark with William Emes (brother of John Emes and his executor acting by 'Virtue of a Power of Attorney'). This mark, "RE over WE", lasted only a few months and Rebecca Emes formed a new partnership with Edward Barnard, leading journeyman of her late husband. I have not found anything bearing this mark. Due to the fact this partnership only lasted 3 months, makes these pieces near impossible to find. This is a great set. Needs a little lpve as it has tarnished and not tarnished where there was a sticker on it. Once sold i believe in Christies 1996 april 15th sale. Ask questions. Sold as is . Happy bidding.
