Description: AVRIAL LEGAT YEAR 1890 Stunning antique Avrial Legat sewing machine. Designed by Auguste Avrial in approximately 1890, in Paris, France. This sewing machine is a very rare piece, in terms of its innovative and spectacular design, which was far from all previous machines. The most curious thing is its operating system. Usually sewing machines work by turning the wheel which causes the needle to move. Well, in this sewing machine, operation is achieved by pushing the plunger on the upper left side down and up. This plunger has a rack that rotates toothed wheels that allow the movement of the needle. It was a revolution in its time and there is no other machine that works in a similar way. It was made of cast iron and enamelled in glossy black and decorated with plant scenes in gold. We can see on both sides of the base of the machine, the name of the builder and the Legat system of the machine. It is kept in very good condition, maintains its shine and the chrome parts are clean and shiny. When you move the plunger, the needle goes up and down, so we understand that it works, although we have not sewn with it. It preserves the wooden case, although it has woodworm holes.
