Description: This is a very rare and unique lithograph print of the famous Ocean Liner SS United States. Once the pride of America and the fastest ship in the world, the United States, or the "Big U" as she was affectionately known, was launched in 1951 and 990 feet long. As of Dec, 2024, the ship has been laid up in Philadelphia harbor since 1996 and is scheduled to be sunk off the coast of Florida as part of an artificial reef. This colored print of the historic S.S United States was published by the Mariner's Museum, c. 1953. from original artwork painted by Thomas C. Skinner, staff artist of the Mariner's Museum. Fans of maritime art can follow this link for more information about the life and career of this esteemed maritime artist: https://www.marinersmuseum.org/2020/07/12480/ The print listed for sale is framed in a vintage mid-century frame and is in good overall condition for a 72-year-old print. It comes from a private collection of maritime art and memorabilia. The colors remain bright and the writing legible. There is some creasing visible from the lithograph having been rolled up at some point in its life. There is some mild discoloration visible in the white parts of the print. Again, the print and frame are very old and NOT being listed as perfect condition, so PLEASE look at the pictures and ask questions before bidding or buying. But it is a VERY NICE and unusual vintage piece for maritime collectors and ocean liner enthusiasts alike.
