Description: VERY RARE Vintage Original 1953 Smokey Bear Tree Stringed Cardboard Poster "One careless match...Yours?""Remember - Only you can PREVENT FOREST FIRES!" INFO: Very rare, unusual, genuine and original Smokey the Bear poster from 1953. GREAT subject matter/scene and marvelous vivid color! This is a "PRE-STRUNG" wax poster for tie mounting to trees and poles! The poster measures 18 1/2" x 13 1/4" and is a thinner wax poster paperboard, which allows it to bend for tree and pole mounting. There are 4 grommeted holes, 2 on each side, with the original strings still attached to two of these. The strings measure about 40" long. In my 66-year lifetime, I've never seen one mounted or for sale, and I've been in this collecting business for over 30 years. It is New Old Stock (NOS), has never been displayed or used, was not stored in premiere conditions, but has survived well considering. "Michigan Department of Conservation" "NATION-WIDE COOPERATIVE FOREST FIRE PREVENTION CAMPAIGN" CONDITION: Excellent condition! Fabulous vivid color! Grommets, holes and strings are excellent! There are no noted crease bends or creases, no bent corners, no tears or soiling. The upper left corner is slightly curled, and the bottom 4-5 inches is curled up some, but lays flat when pressed down. (See photos) It shows little or no dirt/soiling. Darn nice poster for its age and being stored in a garage attic for over 70 years!
