Description: ORIGINAL! RARE! WW1 U.S. MARINE CORPS MAJ. GEN. JOHN A. LEJEUNE AUTOGRAPHED / SIGNED WAR SERVICE CERTIFICATE RARE! WW1 U.S. MARINE CORPS MAJOR GENERAL JOHN A. LEJEUNE AUTOGRAPHED / SIGNED UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS WAR SERVICE CERTIFICATE. Major General Commandant John Archer Lejeune [1867-1942] was the 13th Commandant of the Marine Corps who was known as the ''greatest of all Leathernecks'' and the ''Marine's Marine''. Lejeune served during the Spanish American War, the Cuban Campaign, the Puerto Rico Campaign, the Philippine-American War, the Mexican Revolution, the Battle of Veracuz and most notably World War I. Lejeune was a highly decorated commander and his career spanned nearly 40 years. He was appointed the 13th Major General Commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps on July 1, 1920. Lejeune served two terms as Commandant, from 1920 to 1929. U.S. Marine Corps War Service certificates were signed by "Major General Commandant Lejeune" because General John A. Lejeune is widely recognized for his significant leadership during World War I, a time when many of the Marines who would later receive these certificates were serving, even though he officially became Commandant of the Marine Corps in January 1920; essentially, the signature reflects his prominent role in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Great War, despite not holding the official title of Commandant at that time.===================================================== War Service Certificate United States Marine Corps This certifies that William Woolpey Jr. performed honorable active service in the U.S. Marine Corps from July 13,1918 To Jan. 29,1919 in the following organization and on board the following ships of the Navy Parris Island,S.C.
