The district was opened in 1897 and officially existed for twenty years. It was one of the largest red light districts to ever operate in the United States. First, this book presents a brief history of New Orleans and Storyville. Following the history a number old newspaper articles are reproduced. These articles were published during the twenty year span of the Storyville operation. These articles show the activities of the women and men who worked in this unique red light district. After the newspaper articles there is a list of over 1,600 names of prostitutes who were active in the red light district. This book also contains a hand drawn map of the district, Sidney Story’s obituary and a short glossary of terms. The book is limited to 750 signed and numbered copies.
