Description: Two one-yard cuts, two half-yard cuts of "Katagami," from the Allentown Art Museum for Red Rooster Fabrics. There is a one yard and a half yard cut of the vining, leafy indigo blue on white print. There is a one yard cut of the "shibori-style" textural, tie-dye styled print in indigo and lighter blue print. There is a half yard of a print that features pine tree twigs and ivy leaves on an indigo fine stripe on white. "The museum teamed up with Red Rooster Fabrics in New York to create a line of fabrics from the katagami — or fabric stencils — which have been part of the museum collection for 37 years. Katagami is not a fabric, as such, but rather the technique of printing the fantastically intricate designs that the Japanese were known for. Essentially, it is the fine art of making paper stencils, a technique that has been used for thousands of years (originally from China) and is the direct forerunner of all of our current silkscreen and stencil textile printing. And, thanks to Merle-Smith, the Allentown Art Museum has an extensive collection of these rare, delicate stencils." Have been stored in a plastic bin in a smoke-free, pet-free household.
