Collects all of the known stories Howard wrote of the Puritan wanderer Solomon Kane with 4 color illustrations and dust jacket artwork by Jeff Jones (nee Jeffrey Catherine Jones) In 1989 I again met Jeff at a convention and requested a small commissioned drawing be done in my copy of RED SHADOWS. He was only too willing to oblige but cautioned it would take a while. No worries but after a few months I wrote asking if it would be ready soon. Laid in is Jeff's hand written letter apologizing for the delay in completing this modest commission. True to his word he send along the book a few weeks later with a nifty pencil drawing of Solomon Kane on the front end paper. In the image Kane appears to be flashing a well-known Masonic symbol! Wish I'd asked Jeff what the back-story of that was! Art is on the 4.5" x 7" end paper and initialed with his familiar J. Additionally laid into the book is a convention photo taken of Jeff at a ca 1981 comic show; also laid in are two flyers from Grant publishing announcing the book and the little known set of Jones prints screened on a canvas-like cloth of the art that appears in the book. Artwork, book, dust wrapper, photo and letter are all in fine shape; the original mailing envelope for the letter is age yellowed and folded, the Grant flyers are also folded and age yellowed. A near unique copy of this fine story collection.
