Description: Offering a nice Black Top REGENS Side Squeeze Lighter. It's classified as a collectable; but, this one is also functional. Patented in the US by Alois Kaufmann of Vienna Austria in 1933. Was assigned to REGENS of New York, who manufactured them in the US 1934-55. Kaufmann also had an Austrian patent and the same type of lighters were manufactured in Austria and Germany by several companies. Manufacturing was interrupted in 1942 due to the War Act and in 1944 all properties within the United States of REGENS' owners (Kaufmann, Balek and Buchmann, all Austrian citizens) were seized by the US Government under the Trading With The Enemy Act. In 1948 REGENS former President Matthew Raintree filed a Trademark application which was granted in 1950. I believe this one is a pre-war model.
