Description: This is the actual two-page registration document for the first aeroplane that Jerry Lee Lewis bought. The plane was registered in the Cecil's name to prevent the IRS, wives or girlfriends, or anyone else siezing it to comply with a court order :) It was an old plane that had seen service in WWII but it was in good shape when I flew in it with Jerry back in 1969-70. Jerry had a great pilot called Les Long and he absolutely loved the DC3 and said it was far safer than a jumbo jet. Jerry liked it as it could have 16 passengers, all the Memphis Beats travelled in it too. It was a slow plane but I always felt safe in it. To speed up getting to shows Jerry sold it for 118,00 dollars and he bought a Lear Jet. The DC3 was purchased by a leasing company who rented it to Rick Nelson and his Stone Canyon Band. Sadly it crashed due to a fire in the cabin. This accident killed Rick Nelson and his band. The pilot and co-pilot escaped but had severe burn injuries. Some of the wreckage is now on display at the De Kalb museum in Texas. When the authorities investigated the crash it was noted that the plane had never been re-registered by the new owner - this probably explains why I still have this document. It is a real piece of Jerry's history and I suppose it should really go to a museum but I have had it for ages and ages plus I like the idea of a real Jerry Lee Lewis fan having it and keeping it safe for for another 50 years. However, if either of Rick's sons see this and want it - contact me and I will send it to you free of charge - it is part of your history too. It will be very carefully packed and sent by tracked Royal Mail. I will be happy to answer any questions via Ebay Messaging.
