Weigle, dean emeritus of the Yale Divinity School and the man who directed the writing of the Revised Standard Version of the Bible, died yesterday at the Yale‐New Haven Hospital. He was 95 years old. One of the foremost religious educators in the nation, Dr. Weigle had been hospitalized after a fall in his New Haven home. His death resulted from complications that developed, after hip surgery. A former Lutheran minister, Dr. Weigle was named chairman in 1929 of the committee of 22 biblical scholars who worked on the new translation. He was then dean of Yale's Divinity School. The revised New Testament was published in 1946 and the Old Testament in 1952. The revised version of the complete Bible has sold more than a million copies each year and has been approved for use by all Christian denominations.
