About Richard MacDonald Born in 1946 in Pasadena, California, MacDonald graduated from Art Center College where he was classically trained. From this beginning, he became a self-taught sculptor who has spent the last 50 years reviving the lost art of figurative sculpture through innovation, passion, and intense commitment. The creation of an extensive body of singularly original works in bronze has brought his name to prominence. In his Monterey studio, MacDonald has given himself an artistic space to create. He has synthesized modernist principles with the timeless human desire to create imaginative metaphors of the human psyche through representation of the body. Among his greatest achievements are historically significant public monuments, such as the 26-foot bronze sculpture The Flair which was installed at Georgia International Plaza in Atlanta, for the Olympic Games in 1996, where it still stands today.
