Hinges slightly cracked but no weakness to the sturdy binding. Corners rubbed. Edges sharp. Text block generally very clean and bright. A 7 or 8 out of 10 book. The photographs are the best guide to description. Context: An attractive supernatural mystery by the prolific author, featuring striking artwork. Excepting for the cheaply made pirated titles, official American editions of British titles from this period tend to be better produced, using better quality materials. The first British edition of this novel appeared in 1898, published by James Bowden in London. The first US edition - using the same text layout and illustrations - appeared in 1900. Both are rare.
