The Richmond Football Club, nicknamed the Tigers, was formed on February 20, 1885, in a public meeting at the Royal Hotel (then known as Byrne’s Royal Hotel), directly opposite Punt Road Oval. The club competed in the Victorian Football Association (VFA) from its inception in 1885 until 1907, winning two premierships. In 1908, Richmond joined the Victorian Football League (now known as the AFL) and has since won 13 premierships.
