These are original and factory sealed. They are Region 2 PAL and play beautifully on modern Multi-region DVD players. FEATURES: Series 1: The series begins in April 1889, six months since the last Jack the Ripper killing, and in Whitechapel H Division is responsible for policing one and a quarter square miles of East London: a district with a population of 67,000 poor and dispossessed. The men of H Division had hunted the Ripper and failed to find him. When more women are murdered on the streets of Whitechapel, the police begin to wonder if the killer has returned. Among the factories, rookeries, chop shops, brothels and pubs, Detective Inspector Edmund Reid (Matthew Macfadyen) and Detective Sergeant Bennet Drake (Jerome Flynn) team up with former US Army surgeon and Pinkerton agent Captain Homer Jackson (Adam Rothenberg) to investigate the killings.[7] They frequently cross paths with Tenter Street brothel madam Long Susan (MyAnna Buring), who came to London with Jackson from America and lets him reside at the brothel. Their relationship becomes strained due to Jackson's attraction to one of her most profitable girls, Rose Erskine (Charlene McKenna), and because of his close involvement with H Division and Reid. Sensationalist newspaperman Fred Best (David Dawson) knows a dark secret about Reid's daughter's death. Although still being troubled by her daughter's death, Emily Reid (Amanda Hale) determines to make a new life by helping the fallen women of Whitechapel despite her husband's reservations. Series 2: Set in 1890, much has changed since the last series; Inspector Reid's wife, Emily has left him after he gave her false hope that their daughter may not have drowned; Rose Erskine has left Long Susan's brothel to work as a waitress at the music hall, Blewett's Theatre of Varieties, Sergeant Drake has married another of Susan's girls, Bella; a new detective constable, Albert Flight (Damien Molony) is introduced. Reid crosses swords with the ruthless Inspector Jedediah Shine (Joseph Mawle). Ten years an Inspector on the Hong Kong police force, Shine has used that experience to exert a firm grip over Limehouse’s neighbouring ‘K’ Division and the emergent Chinatown that grows within it. Long Susan, happy as brothel keeper, is in debt to Silas Duggan (Frank Harper) who lent her funds to start the business unbeknownst to Jackson who wants to leave London. Backdrops to episodes in series 2 include Chinese immigration, the London matchgirls strike of 1888, electrical War of Currents, the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn and the Baring crisis Series 3: Set in 1894. All eight episodes from the third series of the TV drama starring Matthew Macfadyen as a detective trying to maintain the law on the streets of Whitechapel in the wake of the Jack the Ripper murders. Set in 1894, H Division's Detective Inspector Edmund Reid (Macfadyen), aided by the hard-boiled Sergeant Bennett Drake (Jerome Flynn) and American forensics expert Captain Homer Jackson (Adam Rothenberg), investigates more murders in Whitechapel including a serious train accident that claimed the lives of 55 civilians. Meanwhile, Reid's long-lost daughter Matilda (Anna Burnett), who was previously believed to have drowned, returns to reunite with her father. Series 4: Set in 1897. All seven episodes from the fourth series of the TV drama starring Matthew Macfadyen as a detective trying to maintain the law on the streets of Whitechapel in the wake of the Jack the Ripper murders. Set in 1897, H Division's newly-retired Detective Inspector Edmund Reid (Macfadyen) returns to Whitechapel to investigate the murder of a rabbi. Once again, he is assisted by Detective Inspector Bennet Drake (Jerome Flynn) and American forensics expert Captain Homer Jackson (Adam Rothenberg), who is meanwhile trying to free Susan (MyAnna Buring) after she is sentenced to hang. The episodes are: 'The Strangers' Home: Part 1', 'The Strangers' Home: Part 2', 'Some Conscience Lost', 'A White World Made Red', 'Men of Iron, Men of Smoke', 'No Wolves in Whitechapel' and 'Edmund Reid Did This'. Series 4 opens in 1897, the year of Queen Victoria's diamond jubilee. Reid has now given up his detective work and is living in Hampton-on-Sea with Matilda. He is drawn back to Whitechapel after a visit from Deborah Goren who urges him to return to investigate the murder of a rabbi at the hand of Isaac Bloom whom she believes innocent. Meanwhile, Drake is now head inspector of Whitechapel and still employs Jackson who has given up his drinking and gambling in order to save money to free Susan, who is now sentenced to hang for her crimes. When his attempts to legally free her fail, he helps to fake her death forcing her to give up their son to be raised by Drake and his wife, while Susan hides out of sight and Jackson pretends to be a grieving widower to his friends. The crime drama which has explored the mean streets of London’s East End returns in the high summer of 1897, as the nation prepares to celebrate Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee. This fourth series once more reunites our heroes Reid, Drake, Jackson and Long Susan - and takes them to their darkest point yet. Series 5: All six episodes from the fifth and final series of the TV drama starring Matthew Macfadyen as a detective trying to maintain the law on the streets of Whitechapel in the wake of the Jack the Ripper murders. In this series, following the death of Bennet Drake (Jerome Flynn), former head of Whitechapel's H Division DI Edmund Reid (Macfadyen), Captain Homer Jackson (Adam Rothenberg) and Long Susan (MyAnna Buring) are on the run and living as fugitives but are determined to expose Assistant Commissioner Augustus Dove (Killian Scott), who is leading the hunt for the trio, and his cannibalistic brother Nathaniel (Jonas Armstrong), and bring them both to justice. Meanwhile, they must also deal with the return of villainous DI Jedediah Shine (Joseph Mawle). Hello :-) IMPORTANT DVD INFORMATION FOR MY US & CANADIAN CUSTOMERS: As per the auction these are Europe Region 2 DVDs (US/Canada are Region 1) and you need a multi-regional (multi-zone) DVD player to play them! BUT don't panic just yet :-) Many DVD players are easy to unlock. Let me know the brand and model number of your DVD player so I see if there is a simple unlock code for your player.
