Description: “Girl with Vase" interprets a classic subject through the lens of Cubism, embracing fragmented forms and muted gold tones to offer a captivating and thought-provoking visual experience that challenges traditional perceptions of portraiture and representation. The girl with a serene and contemplative expression, gazes down at the vase she cradles delicately in her hands. Her gaze is soft and introspective, conveying a sense of quiet contemplation and inner reflection. Her demeanor exudes a quiet confidence and tranquility, amplified by the thoughtful manner in which she gazes at the vase. The scene captures a moment of serene introspection, suggesting a deep connection between the woman, her surroundings, and the object she holds. Despite the abstract and original nature of the piece, the composition exudes a palpable sense of sophistication and refinement, inviting the viewer to partake in the elegant reverie captured within the artwork. The color palette predominantly consists of muted gold tones, with hints of ochre, amber, and sepia, imbuing the painting with warmth and sophistication. The muted gold hues merge and blend across the canvas, enhancing the Cubist elements while evoking a sense of richness and elegance. This piece was acquired from a private collection and is an exceptional example of Roger San Miguel's work that demonstrates some of his best composition and coloring techniques throughout his long and celebrated career. About the artist as presented by magkaisa.net Roger San Miguel was born on September 12, 1940 in San Pascual, Buhi, Camarines Sur. Roger San Miguel took up Fine Arts at the University of Sto. Tomas under the sponsorship of Filipino philanthropist and art connoisseur Don Ramon Camacho of Cagayan De Oro. He had his first one-man show at the Philippine Art Gallery in 1965. Like Paco Gorospe, his exposure at the PAG landed him his first overseas exhibit the following year at the Art International Galleries in California. He started out as a member of the conservative group Talahib. ”Roger San Miguel is characterized as a figurative expressionist. He paints the human figure in curvilinear shapes and forms with earth colors and hues that cause movement and life through progressive graphic shapes. Although he follows the Amorsolo tradition, his virtuosity of style swings him the other way into neo-expressionist works. Like all the conservatives, he gravitates towards the representational” Having painted for over 50 years, Roger San Miguel finds satisfaction in his life’s work. He continues to paint in his home studio which he has fondly named Art in Heaven Philippines.
