Macrinus, a Berber Roman citizen from North Africa, was the Praetorian prefect of the brutal emperor Caracalla. In 217 CE, while on campaign against the Parthians, Macrinus had Caracalla assassinated (allegedly while taking an imperial piss). His reign was brief as the Severan dynasty was popular in Syria. Macrinus was ultimately defeated in battle by Severan forces, imprisoned, and executed. His head was allegedly sent to the new Severan emperor, the infamous Elagabalus, as a trophy. ROUGH.
