Description: ROYAL SHAKESPEARE COMPANYSEVEN PLAYS/PROGRAMS 1987-1988BEN JONSONMETHUENORIGINAL PURCHASER This is a collection of nine plays/playbooks from the 1987-1988 RSC season at the Swan and the Mermaid Theater. These are complete editions of the plays and include cast list, pictures, and commentary from the play. The plays included are William Shakespeare TITUS ANDRONICUSWilliam Shakespeare THE TWO NOBLE KINSMENBen Jonson EVERY MAN IN HIS HUMOURBen Jonson THE NEW INNThomas Heywood THE FAIR MAID OF THE WESTJames Shirley HYDE PARKAphra Behn THE ROVER TITUS ANDRONICUS This is the play and playbook from Deborah Warner's legendary production of Titus Andronicus starring Brian Cox, Estelle Kohler, Peter Polycarpou, and Sean Pertwee. In this and the following Swan season, Warner did brilliant productions of "problem" plays: Titus Andronicus and King John. These aren't plays that make directors famous, but her productions were off-the-scale. Includes a "Walking Tour of Stratford" one-page and a changes insert. I would grade this copy VERY FINE. The covers are excellent with the exception of a bend at the bottom right corner of the front cover. Pages are following this general bend. There is still a small portion of paper/glue from the price sticker on the back cover top left and a ding on the corner of the back cover left bottom. Spine is excellent, straight, and perpendicular to the covers. Binding is excellent and rigid. The scoring along the front and back covers near the spine to allow for the cover to fold as it is opened is still pristine. No gloss cracking and no creases started along this score. Pages are near-white. No marks, writing, underlines, highlighting, creases, folds, bends, tears, or rips on the pages. THE TWO NOBLE KINSMEN From the Swan Theater production starring Peter Guinness and Amanda Harris. I would grade this as VERY GOOD PLUS because some of the gloss is pulling away on the front cover top left at the corner with the spine, bottom left, and back cover center right. Otherwise, the covers look excellent. Covers lie flat, pages lie flat. Spine is excellent and binding is tight. No loose, pulled-out, or missing pages. Pages are cream to light-brown. No marks, writings, underlines, highlighting, creases, folds, bends, tears, or rips on the pages. EVERY MAN IN HIS HUMOUR I would grade this book VERY GOOD. The main flaw are dents and dings along the edges and corners of the front and back cover. Otherwise, the covers look very good. Inks are brilliant, gloss is high, and surfaces front, back, and spine are even. Spine is straight and perpendicular to the covers. Covers lie very, very close to flat with the except of a slight bending up (very slight) of the front cover top right. Binding is excellent. No missing, loose, or pulled out pages. The scoring along the front and back covers near the spine to allow for easy folding of the covers when opened is still very tight. No creases or cracks typical of books that have been opened a lot. Pages are cream-colored to light brown. No marks, writing, underlines, highlighting, tears, rips, bends, folds, or creases on any of the pages. THE NEW INN This is the Methuen Swan Theater edition of The New Inn that includes cast information, commentary, pictures from the rest of the 1987 season (Jeremy Irons in The Rover, Sean Bean in Fair Maid of the West), and the complete play. The cast includes Fiona Shaw (Harry Potter) and Sean Pertwee (Event Horizon). This is an unread copy of The New Inn. I would grade this VERY FINE PLUS. It is in excellent condition except for one flaw: there is a small price sticker on the front cover. Otherwise, this book looks like it's sitting on a booksellers shelf. Covers are excellent. Inks are brilliant and gloss is very high. Spine is straight and perpendicular to the covers. The covers and pages lie flat. Pages are near-white. There are no marks, writing, underlines, tears, folds, or other problems with the pages. This is an unread copy, so the pages are firmly attached to the binding. THE FAIR MAID OF THE WEST This is the Methuen Swan Theater (Stratford-On-Avon) edition of The Fair Maid of the West that includes cast information, commentary, photos, cast information, as well as the complete cast of the play (including Sean Bean). This is an unread copy being sold by the original purchaser. This book is in VERY GOOD condition. Original purchaser. This book has been stored since purchase and never read. Covers are very good. There are bends at the bottom right of the front cover and a tiny (1 mm) bend on the back cover left. There is a line of excess gloss about two inches long on the back cover - this is a printer error. The gloss on the front cover shows some rubbing off. Spine is excellent - straight and perpendicular to the covers. The pages lie flat, are near white, and have no marks, tears, writing, or missing pages. Binding is very excellent - pages are firmly attached. HYDE PARK Cast includes Sean Pertwee (Event Horizon) and Fiona Shaw (Harry Potter movies). I would grade this copy GOOD. Covers look great except for small dings in the corners front and back. There is a crease running the vertical length of the cover from top to bottom about two inches from the right side of the front cover. Spine is excellent and binding is tight. No loose, pulled-out, or missing pages. Spine is straight and perpendicular to the covers. Covers lie almost flat, but pull up slightly at the bottom corner. Pages are cream-colored. THERE IS MARGINAL WRITING IN BALLPOINT written in the margins close to the text. I count 47 instances of one to six word comments, underlines, or brackets, sometimes combined, in light ballpoint blue ink throughout the text of the play. My count, however, may be off by a little, but you get an idea of how many comments there are. The total pages taken up by the play are 46, so an average of one comment per page. THE ROVER This is the Methuen Mermaid Theater (London) edition of The Rover. It is a souvenir edition to accompany the 1988 RSC production with Jeremy Irons and Sinead Cusack. The edition includes photographs, cast biographies, and introduction. This is an excellent copy of The Rover. I would grade this VERY FINE. Covers are excellent - except for the crease on the back, there are no folds, tears, or creases. There is a very small bend in the bottom right corner of the front cover and a slight ding at the top right. There is a price sticker on the front cover. Some of the gloss in a two or three small spots appears about half rubbed off. There is a small bend on the back cover bottom left. Spine is straight and perpendicular to the covers. The covers and pages lie flat. Pages are white. There are no marks, writing, underlines, tears, folds, or other problems with the pages. This is an unread copy, so the pages are firmly attached to the binding. SHIPPING These books will ship USPS Media Mail in a bubble envelope.
