Description: Roystonea regia is a palm in the Araceae family. Most commonly known as Cuban Royal Palm, Florida Royal Palm, Royal Palm, or The royal palm. A native to Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean, and Florida. It can grow to 80 feet tall but usually seen around 50 feet. Birds eat the fruits along with the bats and many more wild animals. It is Cuba's national tree and has some religious roles in Santeria and Christianity, where it is used on Palm Sunday. The trunk is grey-white, smooth, and stout, with a large bulge beneath the crown shafts. It is a beautiful sight when standing at the trunk looking up. The flowers are tiny, which is a white-pink and pale-yellow color. A drought-tolerant palm that can grow in most soils in full sun. Zones 10-11 Germination Soak the seeds of the Roystonea regia in water for 5 days. Sow seeds 2" deep in a pot filled with a mixture of peat and sand with a drainage layer at the bottom of your pot. Once a week, give the seeds a good soaking. Germination takes anywhere from 30-180 days or more, don't give up.
