Description: Early RPPC Chief Kad-A-Shan’s Tlingit Red Snapper Totem Pole Wrangell Alaska Original Location Winter & Pond Original vintage postcard - AZO with Squares stampbox 1925 - 1940s, this image was from a much earlier period and printed later for this postcard . . . Every postcard tells a story . . . 1887: "An Indian named Kadashan is having built a two-story residence on the site of his old house, with two sets of bay windows above and below. The building is a frame one covered with rustic with building paper under it. It will be finished inside with lumber and looks as if it will be one of the nicest in the country. Beat that if you can." This was the new home of Chief Kadashan, whose totem poles until recently stood on Wrangell’s main street, where they had been placed after removal from their original site on the beach near the sawmill. THUS . . this postcard depicts the totem while it was at its original site on the beach . . .
