In 1964, a television network premiered the Rankin/Bass production of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. It was first seen on the "General Electric Fantasy Hour." The story of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer was written by Robert L. May. His brother-in-law was Johnny Marks who was the composer ov the hit song by the same name. His neighbor was Arthor Rankin who finally talked Marks into letting him make the song into a one-hour TV special. Arthor Rankin, and his partner, Jules Bass, used the three-dimensional "Animagic" process to give the show a distinctive new look which popularized the technique of stop-motion animation. The puppets were manipulated by hand or strings then the characters were animated by use of stop-motion photography. This one-hour "Animagic" production is still highly rated, even thirty years after its original premiere.
