Description: About this book: Robert Russell the emigrant ancestor, came to America about 1640. He settled in Andover, Essex County, Massachusetts, where he acquired a considerable estate called "Scotland Yard" or the "Scotland District." When Andover became too crowded with farms, the Russells moved northward into New Hampshire. In a few years the migration turned westward, which carried them into Illinois and the suburbs of Chicago. When disaster struck the family, the Russells moved on by ox team and stagecoach to the dangerous frontiers of Minnesota. The sketches found herein cover the ancestry and descendants of Ira Russell and his two wives, Betsey Bickford Deering and Eunice Jerusia Lee. Ira was born on 13 January 1804 in Bartlett, New Hampshire, the son of Thomas and Ruth Eastman (Harriman) Russell. Thomas was a great-great-grandson of the emigrant ancestor, Robert Russell. It has been a common belief of the family that Ira had a middle name of Otis or Crocker. The name of Otis appears frequently in the family and is the middle name of Ira's seventh child Charles. However, in the many searches conducted to determine Ira's middle name the records all list his name as Ira Russell. Therefore it was decided to omit the use of a middle name in this history.S6G - E
