Description: Russian Badge in Commemoration of the Nuclear Submarine Kursk (K-141).Very well-made piece in metal with silver finish and paint. Measures approx. 27.5 mm wide. The badge is in EXCELLENT CONDITION. The paint and finish are nicely preserved showing only occasional tiny marks from storage, no chips or tarnish. The badge includes perfectly matching screw plate. The badge commemorates the Russian nuclear attack sub which sunk with all hands in 2000 in the Barents Sea. The disaster was later found to have been caused by an explosion of one of the sub’s training torpedoes. The initial explosion set off a catastrophic chain of events including a larger secondary explosion that killed most of the crew and later, a fire which burned or suffocated the remaining survivors. The disaster sparked many conspiracy theories and due to seemingly inadequate rescue efforts, damaged reputation of Russian President Vladimir Putin, at the time only a few months into his tenure as President of Russia. We have seen more recent, inferior quality copies of this badge on the market that have less realistic depiction of the submarine and especially Russian naval flag with the Cross of St. Andrew. The badge we are offering is a nicer, older piece.FREE SHIPPING (USPS 1st cl. Mail) WITHIN USA ONLY! We WILL NOT ship our eBay items outside USA.
