Description: Sansevieria elliptica cv ‘Horwood’ FKH 424 Sansevieria elliptica is a distinctive semi-succulent perennial plant species with dramatic thick green leaves and grey-white mottling. Originally collected from the wild by eminent rare plant specialist Frank Kenneth Horwood (hence the 'FKH') Sansevieria elliptica is likely native to northern Kenya. Sansevieria are generally a forgiving and tolerant genus ~ fast-growing, vigorous and easy to cultivate. They prefer soil with good drainage and take well to container culture, suitable for growing indoors as a houseplant, greenhouse plant and in frost-free outdoor gardens. Preferring bright indirect light, they also take full sun, as well as partial shade (in very hot areas they prefer light shade or morning sun). An adaptable and hardy species, Sansevieria elliptica cv ‘Horwood' will thrive in any collection. It has low water requirements, tolerating infrequent irrigation. S. elliptica enjoys shade or hot and dry conditions — and grows on almost any soil. Like most arid environment plants, Sansevieria has evolved to abandon its roots during long periods of drought, and concentrate its sustenance in the leaves and underground stolons.
