The interior features ladies in kimonos with children on the river shore, while the exterior is adorned with gilded lotus , multi-colored leaves, and other patterns. A beautiful gilded pattern is hand-painted on the top outer and inner edges. The bowl was produced by the famous Kinkozan factory (錦光山造). The Kinkozan family has been associated with pottery dating back to 1645. They became the largest producer of Satsuma ware by a single company, from the end of the 19th century until 1927, after which the factory closed. This piece is export ware, made for Europe or the USA. The bowl is a faience piece with multicolored and gilded decorations, often referred to as Satsuma ware. Satsuma ware pieces were originally developed in Japan during the seventeenth century, specifically in the southern regions of the Japanese island of Kyushu. The name comes from the region controlled by the Shimazu clan (Satsuma-han, officially Kagoshima and surrounding areas). The history goes back to around 1600 when Satsuma pottery was generally plain and made of dark clay, very different from the 19th-century pieces made for export to the West.
