Leyendecker accurately predicted the future when he placed the U.S. men's eight rowing team on the winner’s pedestal a week before the finals. Their only bronze that year came from the sun ; the California eight man rowing team took home the gold medal. Joseph Christian Leyendecker (1874-1951) was one of the most prominent and financially successful freelance commercial artists in the United States. He was active between 1895 and 1951. Leyendecker was a chief influence upon, and friend of, Norman Rockwell , who was a pallbearer at Leyendecker's funeral in 1951. -------- Condition. The front cover is worn at the edges, with significant loss of paper toward the lower edge. The front cover also has staining. Remnant of the original address label on the front cover ( toward the upper-right corner ). ( see the photos ) The staining toward the bottom of the pages fades as the pages go on. Creasing at the upper and lower corners of the pages. Some pages have a little wear toward the outer edge.
