Founded in Milan in 1876 by Achille Savinelli, the brand has continuously offered high quality pipes for nearly 150 years. Though various Savinelli lines have come and gone over the years, the brand has always been notable for putting out classically styled pipes with a distinctly Italian twist. Though now long out of production Savinellis Capri lines were a staple in the makes catalog for quite a while. Likely inspired by the successes of Castellos Sea Rock finish (indeed, the Capris predecessor was the Rock Grain, which I seem to remember caused a legal dispute with Castello), the Capri was Savinellis own interpretation of that great Italian tradition of stony, pebble-dash rustication. This one looks to be from the 1970s or 1980s, and is an example of the Capri Root Briar variation, which had a dark, near-black stain. It also features something less common in contemporary Savinelli pipes: a vulcanite stem. The condition is very good. Some rim darkening and minor finish fading.
