Description: Up for sale here is a very rare original 1883 certificate of appreciation issued by the French and American governments while fundraising for the pedestal to hold the Statue of Liberty when it arrived in New York as a gift from France. The CJ Reynolds Company donated fifty dollars and received this certificate for the donation. The only other original certificate I’ve been able to locate is in the collection of the National Parks Service museum at Ellis Island. 10x13 inches. Certificate was attached to a stronger backing in the 1980’s by the looks of things. Would look amazing fram led. A spectacular statement piece for any New York or American history collection.
